Watchtree

I had a meeting with the Cumbria Wildlife Trust in Gosling Syke near Carlisle this morning, then this afternoon we moved on to Great Orton to be shown around the Watchtree Nature Reserve. This has been developed on the site of an old airfield which was dismantled in 2003 and used as a burial ground for all the carcasses following the foot and mouth outbreak (see extra). It is now a really interesting site with lagoons, reed-beds and woodlands, with an ever-increasing value for wildlife.
