persistence pays

I love the ruggedness of the coast. I could watch the breakers come in all day and spend hours listening to their pounding on the rocks.
I sometimes think about the persistence of the sea, its endurance, Its regularity.
Every day the tide comes in and goes out.. sometimes higher, sometimes lower. And now and again, this persistence pays off and another piece of rock falls away - eroded by the power and persistence of the waves. Not one wave - but the accumulation of many small washes- a true team effort!
No one knows when something you do or say has the effect of making a change - causes a rock or obstacle to crumble. Years of persistence may have preceded your small step in that process and you were just fortunate enough to be the final push to effect that change. That's a gift to be there at that time.
So keep on trying to change things because persistence pays! I think success is as much measured by our dedication and persistence to the cause as by the eventual result.
