Scissor-tailed

Setting the goal for the day: to get a scissor-tailed flycatcher on camera proved a challenge.

Travelling in the car with Hubs and Debbi - Life's Little Moments - we spent the day chasing birds from one fabulous location another.

The Band of Blippers all started at Los Vacas Muertas checking out warblers and other small birds then moved on to the Galveston Seawall where there were a stupendous amount of pelicans - literally hundreds diving into the water fishing off a shoal of fish close to the shore. Stunning to see and what a treat and what a spectacle!!

We then travelled to Bolivar Flats Shore Birds Sanctuary by it has to be said a rather confusing and circuitous route with many uies on the way. The scissor-tail flycatcher had occasionally been seen on the telegraph wires so all eyes in our car were open, scanning the wires. Hubs did a sterling job driving pandering to the needs of two demanding blippers: slamming on the brakes, motoring forwards, motoring backwards and forwards yet again, crossing the road, doing uies - all for a better view. He was a star!

I got this shot leaning on a gate to a field on a busy main road. The flycatcher was busy catching insects on the wing near the ground and here has a bee which he was toying with. A moment I was ecstatic to catch even though it was at a distance!

It's been a stellar day and great to get the camera out with all the blippers over here in Texas.
