Mallard on Seafield Pond

It is not often you can catch a shot of the ducks on Seafield Pond with the reeds as a backdrop. The reed are normally very much attached to the banks of the pond so unless you are swimming in the pond it is impossible to see the ducks with reeds behind them. However, Seafield Pond is a man-made creation set on top of an old rubbish tip. There are even vent holes for the methane to escape. This means it has no natural source of drainage and over the winter months and rainy season the pond gradually expands covering up its original banks. Normally when the pond reaches the edge of the adjacent caravan site, the council step in by setting up pumps to drain the excess water into the sea. However, for whatever reason they have not as yet intervened so the reed beds have gradually become islands of their own. I am hoping the council have not bothered to intervene because they have heard some very positive long-range forecasts and we are set for a nice sunny period. Ever the dreamer !
