Lumber River

Kent & I drove alongside the Lumber River this morning.  The ride was peaceful and it was difficult to look at this quiet piece of nature and know that 18 months ago it was this river that so severely flooded and caused so much devastation during Hurricane Matthew.  The area is still not fully recovered and probably never will.

There were plenty of cypress trees and spanish moss to be seen but we didn't spot any of the gators.  No doubt they are there but they were out of sight.

We saw a couple of beaver dams.  Lots of squawking Canadian geese and so I'm sure the nests were close by.  Sunbathing turtles were out in force as well.

Where the water looked like glass and things looked so beautiful it was so hard to remember that it was this river that caused this devastation.

Afterwards we drove over to Elizabethtown and went to San Jose´ for our lunch before heading for home.  And of course we drove home via the back roads as it was such a pretty day.
