Extreme Birding

Another full on day of wonderful adventures.

Extreme birding with Hubs off-roading down the most deeply rutted, muddy and frankly dodgy tracks and lanes which when sitting in the front seat looked positively dangerous. Debbi (Life's Little Moments) in the rear just said helpfully that she would put her seatbelt on and not look out of the window! :)) Wise! Fair play to Hubs who negotiated the obstacles all in the name of blip whilst the car we followed lost it's muffler. Translation for the Brits - the exhaust system, which dragged on the floor noisily behind it.

We finally came to a halt at a puddle of unknown depth which straggled the road  and watched a flycatcher busily catching insects on the wing over the surface and a Grackle which washed his lizard lunch in it.

Later on during this escapade a car drew up along side and a very nice young man offered to lead us to another birding site in the University grounds which is where I got my blip, on Pelican Island. So, strange country, strange man to unknown destination and we girls didn't think twice about it.

This is a Blackburnian Warbler about five inches big which flitted manically through the tall trees. I loved his beautiful orange throat and the streamlined black stripes. Yet another first for me.

The Blipmeet is drawing to a close and it's been lovely to meet up with old friends and make new ones. I  was sad to see friends leave tonight and will be sad too to see some leave tomorrow.
