Dic Evans 1905-2001

Another lovely day on Anglesey visiting the Lifeboat station and visitor centre at Moelfre. I found this bronze statue of Dic Evans impressive and moving after reading about his exploits. Having done a bit of sailing myself, we are so fortunate that committed volunteers are willing to put their own lives at risk in order to save others. Read more about Dic here:

Richard Matthew Evans (BEM), (January 19, 1905 - September 13, 2001) was born in the village of Moelfre on the north-east of the island of Anglesey. During his 50 years service as a lifeboatman, Richard Evans was involved in 179 launches and the saving of 281 lives and is one of only 5 men to be awarded the RNLI gold medal, the highest accolade awarded by the institution and the equivalent of the Victoria Cross for bravery at sea.
