Salvage from the Wreckage

By NickMogToo

Faith? No. Hope? No.

The traditional end of season charity match. Usually 11-a-side but, for some reason, only 14 of us made it today so it was another, longer 7-a-side game tacked on to the end of the tournament. Had a blast.

What’s that? Well, I’m too modest to say. Oh, very well, if you insist. Yes, some people are calling it the goal of the season. It started with young NickMog playing the ball out from left back and ended with him scoring from an overhead shot that left the keeper clutching empty air.

We don’t need to say any more than that. We certainly don’t need to mention that the incisive run culminated in meeting the ball at the edge of the area and then skying it over the goal and into the car park. Or thatbwhen our hero returned from fetching the ball, he found himself alone in the opposition half just as the ball was hoofed towards him from the halfway line. Faced with that good fortune, a gesture was called for - hence the ludicrously over-optimistic, but amazingly successful overhead shot.

That’s it for the season. The posts come down tomorrow. I’ll be reduced to three games a week until September.
