I’ve never been much for using lens hoods; if I had flare, then I treated it as an opportunity and tried to incorporate it into the composition. The situation is somewhat more extreme with IR but I couldn’t find the hood that goes with the filters (it turned up the next day in an occupied bee hive). The effect of the buds about to open was, I thought, rather nice though the noise in the sky that appeared to be inexplicably linked to the flare wasn’t.
 
I did have a hood that was a good mechanical fit – but not quite matched to the optics - at least it demonstrated the benefits, but the highlight on its inside surface suggests that it isn’t made of the best materials.
