St John the Baptist, Little Maplestead

A much nicer day today, plenty of sunshine, less windy and no rain... Margaret went off to her lunch club and I went over to the Maplesteads. This was originally a chapel of The Knights of St John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitallers built in 1335.  It was completely re-built in Victorian times on the same plan as the original. It is one of only five remaining 'round' churches in England.

The Extra is St Giles, Great Maplestead and another very interesting church. The tower and apse are both Norman.
