In The Occupied Territory

End of the road

This is the top end of Union Street. Some people, however , when you ask where they are going they say, “Union Street.”
When you enquire, “ Which bit? “ they say, “ Top End, near Castlegate.”
That is where the street starts. e.g. the low numbers. Or, the bottom end.
Try telling them and they just don’t get it.
Union Street opened in 1802. Although most of the old buildings on it date from the 1890’s - early 1900’s.
