Only One Baby?

After lunch with friends today, I went for a walk around Commonwealth Lake. We saw several families of baby ducks and geese; the one in my photo was the smallest one we saw.....he was the cutest. Babies are always so cute. We wondered why there was only one baby with this mother....usually ducks have 5 or 6 babies. 

It wasn't the best time of the day for photography....figuring out settings on the move is more difficult than sitting still and taking photos on my deck.  :-))  The extra is a little bit bigger duckling.
