Work In Progress...

My Father in law is renovating a cottage just round the corner from the Birrell house - and has been for the last 2 years. Slow progress due to poor health but he still has single handedly given this place some kind and respectful TLC.

8 weeks he has spent on this fireside wall - which was previously plasterboard and an mdf feature fireplace with an electric bar fire . He has replaced stones, reconstituted lime mortar , built a fireplace from oak and made a hearth.

He laid the herringbone pattern for the hearth, has crafted out of solid oak the uprights and the remainder of the oak has been crafted into a very rustic mantle just less the bark. I'll take some photos of this the next day or so - I've been drafted in to do some "lifting" to secure this mantle in place (skill free role you'll notice)

I'm always impressed by his talent and his patience. He's been syaing he'll move in to this cottage for the last couple of years - this year I believe him.
