Apple blossom

In the last couple of days the apple blossom has erupted, and our small orchard is a sea of frothy pink flowers. It looked particularly beautiful early this morning as I was hanging out the washing, necessitating a dash inside for the camera.

Most of the day was spent at the Lattersey Nature Reserve Open Day. Pete and I led a guided walk round the reserve, which was very well-attended, and then helped Chris, who was showing families how to catch insects by sweep netting. It was wonderful to see children enthusiastically sweeping the grass and getting excited with their finds of spiders, hoverflies, beetles, bugs and even snails. A couple of families with seven children of assorted ages stayed with us for nearly an hour. They were all very interested, even the three-year old boy who had very sharp eyes and a remarkable vocabulary - I think he melted all our hearts!
