Back to Dam Square and back home

The last day of our trip to Amsterdam. We had to get up in time for breakfast, packing and a visit to Anne Frank House. I had been to Anne Frank House long ago, but the whole museum has changed considerably. It was the first time Nienke, Inge and Ellis saw the museum. In school they had learned about the story of Anne Frank, but experiencing the tiny space in which the family had to live and seeing images of the concentration camps definitely had an impact on the girls. And not just the girls, I will admit, as I also left the museum in a state of combined sadness and anger. It appears the lessons of WW2 have faded and far too many people are again looking at populists for easy solutions to complex problems. I hope we'll all come to our senses soon...

After our visit to the museum, we returned to Dam Square to take a close look at the memorial wreaths that were placed at the National Monument during the Remembrance of the Dead ceremony that was held yesterday.

Then it was time to return to the hotel for the last time, to pick up our bags and after that we walked to the car and then drove home.
