Wildwood Assemblage

We don't have any wilderness in Leicestershire - no moors or mountains - but we do have the ghost of one. The bones of Leighfield Forest are the tattered remnants of the post glacial Wildwood, before humans came a long and f****d it up. It's not easy to recognise this unless you know what you're looking for. On its own Herb Paris doesn't mean much, but as part of an assemblage with Nettle-leaved Bellflower, Yellow Pimpernel, Yellow Archangel and other plants, it represents the ghost of the Wildwood, clinging on and just waiting for humans to bugger off so it can get back to business again. Yesterday in the Wildwood I came across more Herb Paris than I've seen previously in my entire life. The Wildwood is alive.
