Thank You For the Days ..

Celebrating the Dull

The heatwave is over, it rained a bit  this afternoon. Now it's dull, but at least I can leave off the hat and sunscreen.

Today we felled a young birch at the front.  We planted five a few years ago and they've done so well they were becoming overcrowded, so one has gone and another will have to go soon.

After that excitement it was back to the weeding.

The picture is a pulmonaria, an insignificant little flower, dull, even.  But it flourishes here, grows into great weed-smothering clumps, and the foliage remains through the winter. This is the common one, known as 'soldiers and sailors' because it changes from red to blue after it has been pollinated.  The bees adore it! Another point in its favour.

I'm still trying to get to grips with the extension tubes and manual focussing. Thanks once again to Riwaka7 for hosting Tiny Tuesday, which encourages me to practice.
