Buzzing

I was thrilled with the wonderful bees the Brownies brought in yesterday. It was so nice to see so many different, creative bees from painted stones to drawings and models made out of bottles and tubes.
One of the badges we are working towards this term is the Super Bee Challenge badge. Today we had a visit from a bee keeper from Avoch who bought in a hive ( with no bees ) and gave us a fascinating slide show. The Brownies asked lots of valid questions, eg Do wasps make honey ? Do bees see in black and white ? What happens if it’s cold , can the freeze ? What plants do bees like best ?
The bee keeper also helps a charity called Bees for development http://www.beesfordevelopment.org/our-work/ so we are raising some money for it so the Brownies have to be sponsored to do the following : Bee Helpful, Bee Creative,Bee Kind and Bee Challenged.
The girls were thrilled to receive their badge, although there are a few more activities to do , and were also given a lovely bee friendship bracelet from the bee keeper :)
The plants in the photo are all bee friendly and will be planted in the Community Garden in Avoch just below where the hives are kept so this Autumn the nectar from our plants will have helped the bees to make some honey.
A few of the girls would like to be bee keepers now :)
