Sea stacks

We were on a very interesting geological boat tour from Exmouth to Lyme Regis today.  After yesterdays very hot weather we probably all should have had more warm clothes but we survived.  The boat very slowly travelled along the coast with a geologist identifying the rock formations.  It was fascinating and I didn't know which hat to have on as I was equally interested in refreshing my geological knowledge and also appreciated the beauty of the rocks colours and textures from a photographic point of view.  We also had good views of nesting birds including kittiwakes.

My chosen blip is one of the Otter Sandstone Formation sea stacks at Ladram Bay that the boat steered us up close to.  I have added another of a classic fault in the extras.  It was also good to get a view of the rocks around the Lyme Undercliff where there has been so much erosion and slippage of rocks that you are seeing a view not visible from the land.  In fact we were told that many geologists in the past got lost in this area and had to be rescued by local people.

The boat was rather late getting back so it was a very quick tea before heading off to an AGM with the OVA association.  An interesting talk after the business on environmental initiatives in the local area.

A very enjoyable but busy day.
