THE LEECH HOUSE

This unique Leech House was used to keep Medicinal Leeches  (Hirudo medicinalis) healthy until they were needed by the local apothecary for apply to human patients as a supposed cure. This is the only one thought to survive in the United Kingdom and was last used around 1900 although these leeches are still occasionally used in medicine to this day.
