The Loneliness and the Scream

... is a song Frightened Rabbit often ended their sets on, leaving the stage with the audience belting out a chant from the song until the lights came up. As has been reported across the Scottish and music news today, their singer Scott Hutchison's body was found last night after he was reported missing. Suffering mental health issues for many years, he was quite open about it and his songs were often about his anguish. We were lucky to attend 2 of their gigs which were full of passion, honesty and great music, one of my favourite bands... and they were Scottish!

Although we were aware of his problems, his involvement in his music, many other creative outputs (they were hosting their first music festival in 3 weeks) and support of mental health charities, it felt like he was coping and it was under control, and with all that success and promise, it still beat him.

It's been a sad day, listening to their music in a different light. Chillingly, the lyrics of a song written 10 years ago seems to mirror these events down to the exact location... and at that point I'm struggling what to say next, except how this illness is often hidden and how many people from all walks of life it affects, yet society goes on with our heads in the clouds.

Ach... yeah... big sigh.
