Swindale

took the bikes on the car to Wet Sleddale. From there we cycled to Swindle Head and then to Mardale using the United Utilities private road which was built so that the construction vehicles for the Haweswater dam didn't' have to go through Shap. It is now closed to vehicle so is  perfect for cycling. A lovely dry sunny day but still a little cool at times. Swindale is a beautiful, unspoilt valley that has benefitted from an RSPB/United Utilities rewilding project to improve the diversity of animal and plant life whilst supporting sustainable farming. The project has been a huge success. The valley is also almost traffic free which is great for cycling.

Later in the afternoon we popped over to see fellow blipper Puffin who moved to the Lakes from Kent on Friday.
