Anniversary weekend

To celebrate our 33rd Wedding Anniversary we went away for the weekend staying in Aviemore.
A fantastic time and so hard to choose a highlight but the Afternoon tea on a Steam train journey through wonderful scenery bathed in Sunshine was very close to the top of the list.
The day started with a walk at Loch Garten, lots of birds around and pleased to see a crested tit and a male redstart, the first I have ever seen.We were quite early so not very busy to start with just a number of bikes taking part in a road race.
Soup for lunch at the Strathspey Heather Centre where we watched a red squirrel on the feeder.
The wonderful train journey next and I was especially pleased to see it was the blue engine which was over 100 years old and looked after by volunteers, (I’ll add some more details when I find some ).
A quick turn around after dinner in the hotel to a wildlife film event at Boat of Garten.Three short films about the Marine environment in Lochalsh, one on Wildcats , The last Highland Tiger and then Red sky on the Black Isle about the suspicious death of 22 red kites and buzzards in Spring 2014. The last film was ‘In to the Wild ‘ with Gordon Buchanan filmed on Mull.
The way back was stunning under a colourful sky as the sunset. We watched a few Roe deer bucks in a field and I had a wander near a very Still Loch :)
