Kirkwall Waxwing

Or Bombycilla garrulus. I went along to Scapa pier to see what was about but there was little in the way of birds- 20+ long-tailed duck, c130 curlew etc. I cycled up to Muddiesdale hoping there might by waxwings in the shrubs but nothing. Nearby, though, there were three on the berry trees at the Pickaquoy Centre. There seems to be a hundred or so in Kirkwall and Stromness- mainly the latter. This bird is a winter migrant to Scotland and is often found in the kind of place I found this- car parks of supermarkets, sports centres etc because there are often ornamental rowans etc. planted there and the berries are valuable food to the waxwings.
