1:1,000,000,000 Scale: Jupiter

Here's the largest known object in our solar system after the Sun: Jupiter.  Various websites state the Eugene solar system scale model started in 1990 when a father was trying to show his son a true-scale model.  Neighbors became enthusiastic, and eventually the city gave permission for use of community property to mount the models.  The scale of everything is as close to accurate as possible on a reasonable budget.  The spheres are made of steel.  Some websites inaccurately state 10 objects are depicted (Sun and 9 planets, as Pluto was still called a planet then).  Actually it's 12 objects because Earth's moon has its own pedestal, and Saturn also has rings.  Compare Jupiter in this photo to the Sun in the first photo of this series.
