The Secret

The Secret (by Rhonda Byrne) is a book about the power of positive thought which is termed the 'The Law of Attraction'.

According to Byrne (and the twenty-nine co-contributors whom she quotes extensively), everything in the Universe (which is always capitalised and therefore prone to religious people jumping to the conclusion that it means 'god', of course) vibrates on a particular frequency. When you think in harmony with the frequency of something, you attract it to you. If you think about wealth, you will receive wealth. If you think instead about your debt, you will receive more debt.

In essence, you attract what you think about; your thoughts determine your destiny. Byrne restates the law of attraction in various ways:

"Nothing, good or bad, can come into your experience unless you summon it through persistent thoughts".

"Your thoughts are the primary cause of everything".

"Your current reality or your current life is a result of the thoughts you have been thinking".

Along the same token, I, for some inexplicable reason, have been busy attracting into my life the most snivelling, incompetent, irritating, computer illiterate, logic defying societal rejects the teaching world has to offer.

Lucky lucky me.

Perhaps I should start thinking more positively and stop being a moany old grump.
