This morning it was possible to do much of the walk from North Berwick to Gullane on the sandy beaches as the tide was right out.   Patches of spring flowers on the path beside the beaches and the cliffs added colour with a bright clump of red campion here giving foreground interest to the island of Fidra beyond.  More campion can be seen about five meters above the eroded sand dunes which appear to have been sculpted by the wind and waves of recent storms.  It was good to see so many people enjoying the sunshine before it clouded over later but at a temperature of only 9.5C in the sea no one was swimming and some of the recently washed up planks were being used to make wind shelters.
