Owl pellets.

My friend found owl pellets when out walking and brought some home to look inside and see what we could find. There are pygmy shrew skulls - with the longer nose and voles with the shorter nose. At the front left of the picture there is a ball and socket joint. You can clearly see the ball but the socket is harder to spot. It is near the hole in the bone on the shaft. The thing that looks like a big claw is actually a lower jaw bone- it has teeth. I was amazed at all this. Owl pellets are not poo as most people think but indigestible bits the owl coughs up. They are full of bones and hair. My friend was a biology teacher and makes all this stuff facinating- if a bit gruesome. The pellets were about 6cm long and dry with no smell at all.
