A unique war memorial

Following the photos of war memorials on Llandaff Green and at Cardiff Bay (22/23 October), this shot is of another memorial at Llandaff which is unique in character.

The spire in the background belongs to Llandaff Cathedral and the masonry in the foreground is part of a ruined 13th century belltower.

The ruined belltower is in fact the war memorial, dedicated in 1924 to the fallen of World War 1. It had for centuries been hidden by other old buildings and these were demolished to give a clear view of the memorial.
