Here and Now

New Peep on Whensday!

We were saddened yesterday to find that a raccoon (?) ripped the wren’s nest down with great effort - the hook was straight but still attached. Needless to say, the parents have moved on. They’ve been checking out another wren house in the yard but haven’t moved in yet...

BUT, while trying to find something I photographed early this morning (no luck yet), Momma and Pappa cardinal were dancing and chirping around me several yards away from their nest. Then I heard a little rustle in the leaves. Lo and behold! Their babe was scampering in the ground. Mr Mole and I have been quietly checking on the nest only a foot off the ground in a hemlock. The first babe died. We don’t know what happened to the second egg. The third was a charm!

Beaming “grandparents”! :)
