Heron

I'd hoped for a walk by the canal but I simply couldn't find anywhere to park, so I went to my favourite 'in town' lake. I'm so pleased I did because no sooner had I got out of the car than I spotted this  heron perched by the lake. In my experience, herons usually make a quick exit as soon as anyone gets remotely close but this chap allowed me to edge closer to him and take a few shots before taking off.
