In The Occupied Territory

Dance hall days

When I was a teenager, this building was one of the places we would go dancing. it was called The Palace Ballroom.
It wasn’t a nightclub then. It is now. It is called Institution.
When it was first built in 1898 it was the first proper cinema in Aberdeen. It was called, yep, The Palace. It had a searing capacity of 1800. Imagine that amount of people watching no one film together.
It wasn’t until the other night I noticed the six perfectly clean looking , polished granite balls near the top of the building.
