Sochin

I'm trying to learn the kata Sochin at the moment. I think I do a pretty good job at learning things from books and videos - I kind of have to, seeing as that's all I have apart from my visits to the dojo in NZ - but it really is an awkward thing to try to figure out any subtleties.

In any case, this is the opening of the kata. The whole thing has a real sense of strength, but is also quick and dynamic at the same time. It's been one of my favourites since I first saw it.

Here's footage of Masao Kagawa sensei performing it in 1990 (way better than modern-day tournament style; this is proper budo.
