Alderfly

I always look out for these unusual flies at this time of the year. They may not be as pretty as the damselflies that are also emerging, but are fascinating.

They have a real prehistoric feel, and I love their wings. They spent most of their life as larvae, remaining underwater for up to 2 years. Once they become adults they only last 2-3 weeks.

The extras include a damselfly not long emerged from it's larval stage, and there are a few of these long-legged spiders around too. I think they may be lying wait for the emerging insects?
