Blacksmith

Ryhope pumping station near Sunderland was open today. It supplied millions of gallons of clean water to the people and industries of Sunderland. It was built in 1866 and closed in the seventies. The water was extracted from a well in the magnesium limestone. On site are 3 resevoirs. The blacksmith was part of team who have restored the place and kept it running. Enormous beam engines pump the water driven by steam.
