Athelhampton House, Puddletown

Well today we did finally make it to Athehampton and what a beautiful day to visit. I was really pleased to use my Travel Zoo Voucher- its an excellent website - a real bargain.
It is a  Tudor manor still lived in by a family today . The gardens are beautiful - see extras and the inside is magnificent but homely. We were interested that one of the previous owners was a cubist and pointillist artist who hung out in Paris in the 1920s with people like Modigliani .Her name is Marevna and her paintings were intriguing though we hadn't heard of her. Marevna
After lunch there we went on to Weymouth to do our Bird Walk with Bob the Birder and we had a very hot but interesting walk In Two Mile Nature Reserve near Lorton Meadows. We saw some twayblade orchids and heard a black cap singing. At Athelhampton we caught sight of a greater spotted woodpecker bouncing round the lawn.
One word for today - HOT !!
So taken were we with Athelhampton, we have joined the Historic Houses Association which has many houses near us which we would like to visit which aren't in the National Trust including Sherborne Castle just up the road. Historic Houses Association
