The golden hour....

Very early this morning Mr U&L and I went to Newbridge just outside Billingshurst where the meandering river and canal run side by side, to look for the elusive Beautiful demoiselle.
Sadly, even though it was early (and the grass was very wet with dew) what demoiselles there were were all Banded demoiselles and were already warmed up and not very willing to sit still so I could take some shots. I did manage a few sort of passable shots of which this one of a female Banded demoiselle Calopteryx splendens is probably the best.
I have added a picture of the road bridge across the river as it looked especially beautiful in the early sun. In winter after heavy rain this whole area floods, sometimes to the extent that the river and canal completely disappear in one huge lake!
