Military Road

There was a car boot sale at Wooler Mart this morning, so we walked down the hill and had a look round before starting work in the 'Music Room'. MrM and I spent the rest of the day pasting the lining paper on to the walls.

When we eventually finished, just after 7.00pm, it seemed a shame not to take advantage of a lovely warm evening. So we packed a picnic and MrM drove us to Holystone. We sat outside and enjoyed our meal whilst listening to cuckoos calling and watching the moon rise over the Simonside Hills (extra).

We had intended to walk to the well at Holystone, but decided to drive further up the hill on Holystone Common to see what was there. And we kept on going, because we could! It's military land past a certain point, but access is permitted as long as there are no red flags flying. A nice drive to Billsmoorfoot through some lovely scenery, then back to Wooler through Rothbury.
