Red Deer Calf

Not a nice day, mainly wet, but stayed dry for this walk, wet for the other two. Stood watching a small group of female deer for a few minutes when this youngster appeared. She was running and skipping about obviously enjoying life. I kept my distance as the mums can get very aggressive when they have young. All of a sudden the youngster came jumping through the bracken to have a closer look at me. Thought I might have to make a fast retreat, but mum just carried on feeding. the youngster stood there for about 30s and then went bounding back to mum. I think she was an early arrival as normally they are just starting give birth about now and this one was probably 3 weeks or more old.
