Moaness, Hoy

Over on white-tailed eagle monitoring volunteer shift again. The ferry trip out was in thick fog- we couldn't even see the island of Graemsay which we had to sail round. The eagles were pretty hard to spot since the cliff was reluctant to cede its mantle of mist (poetry!), but eventually good views were had by all. The male bird at one point was high above me and being mobbed by a whole gang of birds- raven, gull, bonxie and even a male hen harrier which nearly got grabbed by the eagle a couple of times. All the large birds looked tiny by the eagle. Eventually the eagle just got tired of such unkind treatment and soared far above the reach of the other birds. On the ferry back we had bright sunshine as can be seen in the shot.
