It's a boy.

Another lazy day birdwatching. Apparently, if the red extends behind the eye, then it is a male bird- according to a book I was reading. I would definitely say the red goes behind the end of the eye on this goldfinch. The one I took the other day looks like it was a girl- to see click here. It is a better photo too.
