But, then again . . . . .

Dandelion Seed.

Knowing that I wouldn’t post this in time for the adjudication of the Flower Friday Challenge, I did not take a photograph of a flower today. By and large, the day was taken up with shopping and packing leaving just enough time to capture this dandelion seed head before it gave up its last seed to the wind.

Our lawn has a healthy crop of dandelions which have developed the habit of keeping their heads below the height of the mower blades. This leaves me pondering the very important question of whether the plants have, as individuals, regulated their growth to fit the mowing regime or, is it a different strain of weed that inhabits the lawn compared with that which lives in the adjacent flower bed. As always, in such cases, I favour sitting on the fence and would suggest that both factors are at work here. Of course, the whole issue would disappear if we kept a few rabbits or Guinea pigs who would eat the dandelions down to the ground in preference to the grass; whichever we chose, it is worth remembering that there’s good eating on both species.
