Blair Atholl

It was school trip today (again). Today we went to Blair Atholl Estate. I spent a good deal of childhood up in the Blair Atholl Estate so it was a joy to introduce all the children to it. The weather was glorious and dare I even say that I think it was possibly too hot. We don't get such wonderful weather here in Scotland often and so when it arrives then it sometimes can be a bit overwhelming. For those of you who may be reading from warmer climates the temperature reached about 25 degrees today with full sun. I wilted and so did the very small children. Anyway it looks like we will be back to normality tomorrow - it's forecast rain and a good deal colder.

Blair Atholl Estates houses a wonderful castle that is painted all white so it is very impressive however I decided to photo the rolling fields. This was taken during a tractor ride inside a field of sheep and Highland Ponies.
One of the Estates impressive claims is that it has it's very own army which I believe is the only private army in Britain. I'm sure they have not been needed for battle in the recent centuries.
Later in the day we were treated to a number of 'estate' jobs. We watched a sheep being sheared which was over before the shearer had a chance to chat to the sheep about his holidays! All very impressive, the speed and accuracy despite the sheep constantly wanting to wriggle out of his new summer hair cut before it was finished.
A grand day out as they say.
