limited landing space

...it was generally a very pleasant day, today, but torrential overnight rain has resulted in considerable local flooding that made our walks even more splishy-splashy than we have come to expect. The biggest difference was that the wind had dropped and it felt much warmer. We went back to the location where I photographed the fox yesterday to discover that the Corfe River has flooded and the whole area is completely submerged!

The continued high water level meant only long distance shots were possible again. This shelduck coming in to land among the lapwings, wigeon and teal, was taken from the bird hide on Middlebere Lake, which is really a channel and not a lake. There was a huge colony of avocets, to the right of this action, waiting for the mud to be exposed. We waited for ages to see if something would cause them to fly up, which would have made an interesting image, but they remained resolutely motionless and too far away to render any real detail.

The weather outlook remains mixed but at least the tide should start to move in my favour as the week progresses...
