Puffin Heaven - backblip

Monday 28th

Today was the highlight of our already wonderful holiday: the Three Isles Tour starting with a longed for ride on a CalMac ferry from Oban over to Craignure, Mull where a coach was waiting to take us on a very scenic and interesting journey down to Fionnphort in the south of the Island where we caught a ferry over to Staffa. Our first view of the Island and Fingal's Cave with its magnificent basalt towers was breathtaking. Once we alighted from the ferry we climbed many very steep steps up onto the Island where you could turn left along a pretty perilous looking ledge and explore the cave or right for a shortish up and down dale walk over the cliffs in the hope of seeing Puffins. I took the Puffin path and was very soon in Puffin heaven. After a half hour sit down with the Puffins it was time to get on the boat again to the lovely Island of Iona. We had two hours to spend there which was time enough to see everything there was to see, the Nunnery and Abbey particularly and soak up the amazing history. Back on the ferry to Mull, another coach ride and a last ride on the CalMac back to Oban. A full, tiring and wonderful day. Got back to the caravan late but had our Last drink with J & K recounting our lovely day with them and watching the sun go down until the midges finally drove us in.
