Run Down

We visited Canowindra and Grenfell today - starting with some good old fashioned markets at Moorebel just outside Canowindra where we enjoyed Devonshire Tea with lashings of cream on the scones, then moved on to Grenfell, the birthplace of Henry Lawson, and the home to one of Australia's richest reefs of gold.

The Queens Birthday holiday weekend will see the Henry Lawson Festival in full swing, but apart from the Art Gallery where they were busily hanging paintings today, the town was very quiet.  There are some wonderful old buildings in town, some dating back to the mid-1800's, but many are in a poor state of repair as the community struggles to hold on to its heritage.
