Sgwarnog: In the Field

Scorpion

Another early evening walk along to Moorside, down to Spring Wood and back through Tong Park.

It was a good day for moths: Chimney Sweepers by the dozen, but also Cinnabar, Yellow Shell, Small fan-foot, Straw Dot, Common Carpet and Silver-ground Carpet. It was quieter for butterflies, but I saw an overdue first Small Copper of the year and another Large Skipper in the grassy patch between the wood, golf course and beck. Plenty of damselflies too, and a fleeting encounter with a sgwarnog.

But out of all that, I've chosen a Scorpion Fly to share; they're impressive little creatures.
