Stromness Street

The two-way main street is very narrow in places, but trucks, campers, tankers, cars, cycles, horses and pedestrians seem to get along fine - with a bit of patience and courtesy from all involved.  If you are driving along the street you must be prepared to stop and do a bit of reversing and if you are walking you will thanked for stepping to one side two or three times as you make your way down the street to allow vehicles to pass.
The stone slabs of the roadway are often dislodged and uneven and pedestrians have to pick their way to and fro along the street, so if you are a cyclist, you would be thanked for warning pedestrians of your approach.
