Standing Stones

Off to find standing Stones, but first a coffee by a lochan watching swans and a fisherman. Onto Finstown looking for the Stones of Stenness and afterwards to the Ring of Brodgar where 36 of the original 60 stones can be seen- as blipped above.

When in Kirkwall yesterday we bought a ticket to see the palace ruins, this entitles us to enter other sites including Mae Howe. After some confusion we arrived at the historic site said to be the finest chambered tomb in Western Europe. Built in 2,700BC it was plundered by the vikings in the mid 12C. The tour guide talked to our group of about 20 in the chambered area where she spotlighted a number of runic inscriptions - with interpretations.
Parked up for the night and Yesnaby with a stunning evening walk along the cliff tops, the view out over the sea goes on forever, when walking we looked for the leaf of the Scottish primrose. Not found.
