In need of a strim

Boars Mill, Corfe Castle

Now in the ownership of the National Trust, this once served as a mill and latterly as a bakery.  The town originally had two mills, the other - West Mill - on the Corfe River was demolished in the early 20th century.

The mill now serves as two holiday cottages.  It is at the bottom of the eastern part of the castle mound, close to but well hidden from the main road.  The top of the sluice gate controlling the height of water in the mill race can be seen at far right.

The site (much as the town centre) was used in the mid-1970s television version of Thomas Hardy's novel "The Mayor of Casterbridge"
